With a 7/16″ diameter and 1″ length of cut, the YG1 84588TE solid carbide finishing end mill features six flutes and a TiAlN Extreme coating, delivering a length-to-diameter ratio of 2.29 that balances rigidity and reach. This design is well suited for detailed finishing on low carbon steel 1018/A36, as referenced in Best Combinations guidelines. Its 6-flute configuration combined with a 40° helix angle enhances surface finish and chip evacuation, while the variable pitch reduces vibration for improved finish quality during light radial stock removal. The TiAlN Extreme coating extends tool life and maintains dimensional accuracy in steel applications. This tool should not be used on Non-Ferrous (ISO N) materials due to coating unsuitability that leads to rapid wear. Travers Tool recommends this end mill for finishing steel and compatible materials but advises against its use on non-ferrous metals to avoid premature failure.
