The body is coated with black oxide to prevent corrosion due to the use of coolant. The female-type slot on the nut allows any workpiece to be clamped using a suitable fastener. TE-CO T-slot nuts are partially threaded nuts such that the last thread is incomplete. It is to prevent the fastener from turning through the bottom of the nut.
